There is such a "pilgrimage" class of Off road routes-"Kerya"

As the shortest route from Xinjiang to Tibet, the Kerya Ancient Road is also known as the "ninth Line into Tibet". It starts from 

Pu Village, Xinjiang, through the Kunlun Mountains to Qiangtang, Tibet, with a total length of about 400 kilometers.
